Twin Cities 4th of July Weather History

Yes, we are in Minnesota, so we always understand how changing and unusual our weather can be. Let’s take a look at the averages, records, and trends over the past 15 years.

4TH OF JULY RECORD TEMPS & PRECIP:

Just 5 years ago, we broke a record on Independence Day, with a high of 101° back in 2012. Just reading that number makes some hear the song “The Heat is On” by Gleen Frey plays in their head. 43 years before that date, back in 1972, we had our coldest temperature of 43° as a low temperature. Our wettest Independence Day was back in 1990; 2.27″ of rain was recorded on that day.  Our “coolest” daytime high on the 4th was a chilly 58° set back in 1967. Keep in mind that the average high is about 82°.

2017 4TH OF JULY FORECAST:

For this year, we are looking at temperatures in the upper 70s to low 80s with a chance of isolated thunderstorms possible. These thunderstorms will not be total washouts, though.
