We knew a while ago that we would be seeing some much warmer-than-normal temperatures pop up for our Friday, but the exact numbers were up in the air. Earlier in the week, high temperatures were expected in the mid to upper 80s. With all the warm air, temperatures soared into the 90s for most of the state, with the Twin Cities, Duluth, St. Cloud, and Eau Claire breaking records. Duluth’s record high was broken with a big 9° difference. Our previous record at MSP was 89°. We broke that with 92°.
Towards the middle of April, we hit our first 80°, which is another sign that summer is just around the corner.
Just 24 hours later, our temperatures are much cooler. Below is the 24-hour temperature difference compared to Friday at 2 PM. All the blue shows the much cooler temperatures.
On Saturday at 2 PM, our temperatures are very nice, with highs in the 70s and 60s across the metro.
You can thank the cold front for the cool down. At around 2 PM Saturday afternoon, the cold front was near Illinois, Nebraska, and Detroit. This cold front brought cool temps and breezy north-westerly winds.
