The National Weather Service in the Twin Cities has placed portions of Central, East Central, South Central, Southwest, and West Central Minnesota under a Heat Advisory from noon until 8 PM Friday Evening. The map below shows the counties under the Heat Advisory in orange.
HEAT INDEX: Heat Index values of 98° – 103° are expected for areas in the Heat Advisory. The chart below shows how to calculate the heat index value from the temperature and relative humidity.
Things to Watch For The hot temperatures and high humidity levels may cause heat illnesses to occur.
RECOMMENDED ACTIONS: Drink plenty of fluids and stay in an air-conditioned room. Check in on relatives and neighbors, especially the elderly. Pets or children should NEVER be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. If you do work outdoors, take plenty of breaks, wear loose-fitting clothing when possible, and stay hydrated.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments to reduce risk during outdoor work. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heatstroke is an emergency! Call 9-1-1 if you experience symptoms of heatstroke.
