Winter Storm Watch Issued for Friday

The National Weather Service has expanded the Winter Storm Watch originally issued for portions of southern Minnesota to now include the metro areas. The heaviest of the snowfall is still expected to fall across southern Minnesota into central Wisconsin, but increasing confidence exists with totals nearing 6″ further to the north. This Winter Storm Watch starts at 12 PM Friday and lasts through 6 AM Saturday morning. The map below shows the latest alerts as of 10:18 PM on Wednesday evening.

Early Snowfall Forecast:

Early numbers issued by the National Weather Service in the Twin Cities show 4″ – 6″ of snowfall expected for Hutchinson, with a band of 6″ – 8″ possible for the Twin Cities. Areas north of Minneapolis could see lesser totals compared to areas near Cottage Grove or Rosemount. It is important to note these numbers are early and will be more refined as the storm gets closer to the area. The map below shows the snowfall totals forecast for Friday’s storm from the National Weather Service as of Wednesday night.
