NOAA Winter Outlook for 2017-2018

We’ve been kind of spoiled the last week weather-wise here in Minnesota, but that won’t last for long. Forecasters at the Climate Prediction Center released their 2018 Winter Outlook on Thursday. A La Nina winter is potentially on its way, making it the second year in a row. We broke down the outlook below for easier understanding.


PRECIPITATION: Wetter than normal conditions are in the forecast for most of the northern United States. Drier than usual conditions for the southern United States with at or near average precipitation for basically the middle of the United States. TEMPERATURES: It’s looking like a much warmer winter for areas including the Southern two-thirds and the East Coast. At or near average for areas including Iowa, our neighbors in Wisconsin, and parts of Minnesota. Notice parts of Minnesota. We have a chance of seeing some cooler-than-average temperatures for the North-Western tip of Minnesota, including Moorhead, MN. This cooler trend includes the Northern tier through Minnesota.
