Fall Colors in Minnesota

Fall in Minnesota is a very popular season in the great state of Minnesota. Colors on the trees start changing as early as mid to late September in extreme Northern Minnesota and as late as mid-October in extreme Southern Minnesota. Our map below shows the typical peak times for the leaves to start changing colors in Minnesota as well as Western Wisconsin.

Explore Minnesota lists one of the best scenic routes to drive through Minnesota for the fall colors on the North Shore of Lake Superior. Using Minnesota Highway 61, Duluth to Grand Portage is the route they recommend. This is best from mid-September into early October for the best viewing of the fall colors.
